Reviews from users

tanja niebaum: nyt cooking is a treasure trove. i would love some extra functions though: to be able to tap the recipe in the grocery list and return to the recipe from there, to be able to search within the recipe box for saved recipes. the way the app tends to automatically sort recipes into folders can be a bit funny at times, too. but - this was very critical. i'm a fan.

Tim Storhoff: I loved this app. But I can't use it anymore because whenever I try logging in with the subscription I've already bought through NYT, it directs me to subscribe through Google Play. After multiple installs and reinstalls, still no luck. Thankfully I can still access the content and my 100+ saved recipes on a computer.

Kyle Nitiss: Totally unable to log-in despite having purchased a subscription through the app. Attempting log in just bounces me back to the splash screen. Seems to be a recurring and unresolved issue as i see users describing this exact problem in reviews from two years ago. Have uninstalled and re-installed to no avail. Can't even log in using my subscription through the website.

Julie Knobel: Recipes are awesome, comprehensive, most have great pictures. I really wish they would put nutrition facts with the recipes, especially since most free cooking sites do. It doesn't seem like it should be a problem for a paid subscription service. I have done it myself due several recipes, seems like they should include it.

Harvey Gaylord: NYT Cooking is a wonderful app. Thousands of recipes, accompanied by the best comments ( that is, useful for the cook, friendly and almost never snarky). It's only shortcoming is that it seems not to auto-rotate on my tablet or on my phone, and so can't be used in landscape view.

Not Applicable: The app refreshes the recommended recipes each time you choose one and open it. Very frustrating! The moment you select one and then hit the back button afterward to look at another, they are all refreshed and gone. Some AI nonsense predicting what you're going to want to see based upon previous choices. Why don't you just let me decide what I want to see? An abysmal administrative decision. I have no words to describe how frustrating, stress-inducing, and inept this is. Someone should be fired!

Stephanie Mitchel: A mighty fortress is our NY Times Cooking... and the best strategy is to take what you can from its recipes and run! Real folks have no kitchen staff, limited time, food they're trying to use before it spoils, and budgets. Adapt, adapt, adapt! As for the app, it's been so reliable til very recently. Suddenly I'm running into issues with recipes loading, photos displaying, and adding to or accessing my recipe box. I can only hope an update is around the corner.

Diana d'Ambra: Excellent Resource. I am a long-time subscriber to the NYT, so I had no problem with access. The recipes are excellent if a bit awkward to find. The cooking skill level is properly assessed but you need some cooking skills to do the easy level. I personally would like the food analysis breakdown, calories, fat, sodium, etc, but its a minor drawback. Very worthwhile.

Erin Mooney: The content is great, but there is some opportunity to improve functionality. Clicking the share feature on a recipe has always resulted in the app crashing for me. Which is frustrating, especially when I want to share a recipe that I've loved with family and friends!! It would also be nicer to be able to use the grocery list as something I could more easily check off while shopping. But ultimately my NYT Cooking subscription has been a game changer.

A Google user: Easy and intuitive to use, great graphics, highly functional. After spending some time with this app, I've discovered the flaw that I now see mentioned in other reviews. When you drill down to browse a recipe, then hit the 'back' button, the app takes you all the way back to the main list of recipes. Leaving you to re-navigate back to your previous spot. That gets old quickly. Otherwise, terrific app.
